Correction, the pigeon shown with the clipped wings is not a South African pigeon. This is exactly what you should not do.
This pigeon can fly normally as both wings are clipped. It is however doubtful whether it will be competitive against pigeons with a natural wing. Until this pigeon has moulted the clipped flights it is likely to be at a disadvantage. The preoccupation of some fanciers with the state of the moult is speculative. Year in and Year out the pigeons in the top hundred demonstrate every conceivable state of the moult. As the vast majority of pigeons are basketed with full wings this is clearly not the deciding factor for achievement on the day.
Bottom line is to send your best and keep your idiosyncrasy's at home!
